Taft and President-elect Warren G. Harding were elected to its membership. The Newport Mercury (Newport, Rhode Island) reported in its January 3, 1920 edtion that former President William H. Taft was elected Deputy Governor General of the National Society Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims. In the November 22, 1923 edition of The New York Times, it was reported President Calvin Coolidge, Wiiliam H. Taft, and Woodrow Wilson were elected Honorary Governors General.
